I met this Brooklyn native a when I first moved to Florida
several years ago. I had to ask him why an Italian New
Yorker was cooking Southern Barbeque. He smiled and
said, “That’s just what I do”…and he does it very well!
Now in its tenth year Newberry’s Backyard Bar-B-Q
is a landmark of the community. All the hustle and bustle
of Newberry is right here. The food is cooked with loving
care as Rocky makes sure that food quality and service
exceed his customer’s expectations. “We make fresh
onion rings, hamburgers are made to order and the corn
is fresh, not frozen” said Rocky.

side him. It is obvious that
Rocky is proud and
thrilled to have his kids
involved in what he does.
He is also proud of his
staff and instructs me not
to take any photos of
him, that it is his staff
that he is most proud of.
Rocky supports the
community and gives
back all the time. You
will see him at Chamber
Mixers, fundraisers and
local school events,
always ready to lend a
helping hand to his
community of Newberry.
Rocky told me that when he was living in Brooklyn the
most successful restaurant there was a diner. “The owner
of the diner always did stuff for the community and they
never forgot it. Saying thank you to a customer as they
walk out the door is not enough, that’s why I do things for
the community and they appreciate it…they keep coming
back!”, said Rocky.
About three major events are put on by Backyard Bar-
B-Q each year; the Snow Party, the New Years Eve Party
and Labor Day Fireworks. All of these community events
are free - there is no cost to the public. Rocky covers the
cost out of his own pocket. Without question Rocky is a
man that really cares about people and we all love him for it.
Rocky is inviting all of you to his 10 Year Anniversary
Party at Backyard Bar-B-Q. on Monday, May 12th from
5-8p.m. There will be Kids Rides, Free Hamburgers &
Hot Dogs, live Radio Station remote and tons of Give-AWays
including two tickets to Wild Adventures Theme
Park from Good Life Community magazine!
