SPRING SEASON (April - June): One of the offshore highlights in Spring is the
running of the King Mackerel as they search for warm waters. Grouper, Black Seabass and Red
Snapper are also popular catches in the waters offshore. Great fishing also exists if you’re looking
to stay in the shallower in-shore waters of the Steinhatchee area. Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish,
Redfish, Spotted Seatrout and many other popular types of fish are common catches here.
SPRING SEASON (July - September): Scalloping is this season’s most popular
activity in the Steinhatchee area. It’s an easy, fun sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
Ask the staff at Gulfstream Motel and Marina how to find the best places for scalloping, grab your
snorkel, fins and mesh net for your catch and you’re on your way!
If scalloping doesn’t quench your thirst for the sport of fishing, you can take guided or chartered
services to catch the “big” fish. In addition to many of those you’d expect during the Spring
Season, Summer brings Tarpon, Flounder and even Shark.
SPRING SEASON (October - December): Just as in Spring, Fall is another time when
many fish run for warmer waters. Expect to fish for Spanish Mackerel, Redfish, Bluefish and
others inshore, while Grouper, Kingfish, Black Seabass, Red Snapper and others congregate
offshore.
SPRING SEASON (January - March): For those of you looking to escape the cold
weather for some warm winter fishing during these months, Steinhatchee is a fishing haven.
Grouper and Sheepshead are two of the most popular, fun catches during this season. Gulfstream
staff and guides can help you locate the latest hot spots and ledges where these and other fish may
be hiding.
You will need to buy a recreational saltwater fishing license before you fish or go scalloping.
All the information you need to get your fishing license can be found by calling 1 888 FISH

If you are scalloping don’t forget to bring a snorkel/mask, fins and a mesh bag for your
