The Excitement of…MIAMI!

by Trish Utter

The chill of winter is here, but it’s 78 degrees in Miami! Don’t you just love living in Florida? There are so many places we can drive to for a weekend. I booked Circa39, a boutique hotel in Miami, for a family trip with my son Colt, and Brooke my daughter. The drive was easy and parking was a breeze with their secured parking lot. I was greeted by the beautiful and bubbly staff.

Driving up to the quaint hotel, you can’t help but imagine that you are back in the 1930s. The architecture is stunning and makes you feel that you are on a movie set. The hotel was built in 1939, and completely updated in 2014. Circa39 is across the street from the wide, sandy beach and around the corner from the Fontainebleau Hotel.

Within a minute we had our room key and followed the terra-cotta path to a lush courtyard, called the WunderGarden, which is a secluded courtyard with comfortable little nooks to relax in. It’s quite a cozy little hideaway.

The corridor to our room was lined with white chiffon that blew in the tropical breeze. Ah, it was so relaxing. The room was spacious and very quiet. It was wonderful to have a large closet, and a fridge in our room was an extra plus. We couldn’t wait to hit the pool which is nestled on a comfortable sundeck with cabanas and loungers.

As the name suggests this is one heck of a boat ride. If you loved Miami Vice then this is for you. Speed around the harbor of Miami and Star Island at speeds of up to 50 mph. See homes of Rosie O’Donnell, Elizabeth Taylor and the mansions that Bad Boys and Scarface were filmed.

Fashion, Fast Boats, Art Deco: Tradewinds Apartment Hotel

pool

It was a five hour drive down I-75 to the Florida Turnpike that goes straight to Miami, an easy trip. We pulled up to Tradewinds Apartment Hotel. This two story Art Deco building is all white, set off by beautiful teak furniture and lush tropical plants. As soon as you walk through the door you see the trendy, ultra-modern interior design.

We met Susan, Joan and Omar, the front desk staff. Every time we had a question they knew the answer and were very helpful and also bilingual in English and Spanish. The staff at a hotel can make all the difference to your stay.

hotelHaving an apartment is the best way to visit any destination. Tradewinds has 160 apartments, you can choose from a studio, one bedroom or two bedroom flats. You will find huge rooms, large kitchens and tons of closet space. The apartment reminded me of the metro London look only with a lot more space. Large flat screen TV’s in every room, sound system for your iPod and dark granite counters with stainless steel appliances.
