Local Celebrity Spotlight – Meet Hugh Cain

Meet Hugh Cain, he has been in the Alachua area for some time and is well known for his insurance business as an Allstate agent.

Where are you from and why did you move to this area?

I was born at Alachua General Hospital in Gainesville. My parents moved to the Alachua area when I was in the 5th grade from Lake Santa Fe. We left the lake life to the farm life in the Good Life Community and many years later I am still here.

Where did you go to school?

I attended Springhill Middle School (High Springs) which is now High Springs Community School. I graduated from Santa Fe High School here in Alachua and was the 1983 senior class president

How do you relax?

Shooting clay targets with my Blaser F3 Supersport can be very relaxing when I am on my game.

Where do you like to go for a weekend getaway?

St Augustine and cruise up and down the Intracoastal Waterway or go offshore for the day on my boat.

What do you listen to in your car?

Sirius, 56 The Highway and Fox News, as much as I can stand.

What was your first job, what did you learn from it and how much was your
first paycheck?

Cropping Tobacco and picking watermelons on the O’Steen farm for a whopping
$16.00 per day. I learned that this was not a career job!

What is in your fridge right now?

Yogurt, unsweet tea, elk meat, eggs, and orange juice.

What is your favorite thing to snack on?

Not a big snacker at all, however a good pack of peanut butter cheese crackers is spot on for me.

If you had $5000 to invest what would you do with it?

Allstate Financial in the Market and watch it grow and hope it doubles.

Do you have a favorite quote?

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

What was the best advice you have received?

My parents taught me to work hard and be honest through life and good things will happen.

What is your favorite thing to do locally?

Shoot Sporting Clays as much as I can and competing around the Southeast in different tournament events.

What is your favorite movie and why?

Forrest Gump…….”Run Forrest Run!” My favorite scenes are with Lieutenant Dan, and my favorite quote from the movie is, “Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. Dey’s uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it.” – Bubba Blue.

What is your favorite meal?

I have two. A nice ribeye steak, and spaghetti and meatballs. Unfortunately, I must say I enjoy meat and potatoes.

What have you always wanted to do but never done?

Napa Valley, wine country.

What gadget can’t you live without and why?

My iPhone of course! I talk about this all the time. How would you know where to go? …….the glove box maps are no more!

What advice would you give your younger self?

Learn to be a better listener, you never can learn too much. The more you know the easier the journey

What is the one bit of luxury you can’t live without?

Internet I must say …Unfortunately, the world we live in now the ole Webster Dictionary series is long gone.

What is your favorite TV show and why?

It’s got to be Family Feud, it’s all about Steve Harvey. He is so entertaining and with the crazy game show channel, you can watch it for a few hours.

What was your first car, what do you drive now, and what would be your dream car?

My parents gave me the ole 1973 midnight blue F100 Ford pickup I stayed in the Ford Motor Company and now drive a 2018 F250 6.7 Diesel.

What would your dream car be?

A bright blue Audi, R8 V10 spider. I need all that power!
