Chuck Bush started Chuck Bush Auto 25 years ago, located in Gainesville, and not far from the Hippodrome Theatre, in downtown Gainesville. He has become an automotive icon. He is often seen at a Gator game or at Gator Nationals with his bright yellow race car.

Where are you from?

I was born in Gainesville at Alachua General Hospital. I moved to Alachua in 2014 with my wife, Michele Bush. I went to Buchholz in 9th grade and graduated from P.K. Yonge.

How do you relax?

Riding my horses on trails and camping in a Cruse America R.V., and Kayaking on the Santa Fe River.

Where do you like to go for a weekend getaway and why?

Lately on weekends we like to go to a small, quiet place called Palm Coast Villas near Flagler Beach. We go there to see our grand babies that live over there.

What do you listen to in your car?

I’m pretty old school, I listen to talk radio, N.P.R. or I scan for songs. I like country, rock, or even punk rock as that is my favorite music.

What was your first job?

When I was 10 years old my Dad would make a “to do list“ at his repair shop and I would list what each job paid. As I checked them off I could count up my own pay. I may have made $30-$50 a week at that time.

What is in your fridge right now?

Not a lot. Eggs, yogurt, sparkling water, cucumber salad. My wife is a great cook. I love her home-made Chickem Piccata.

What is your favorite thing to snack on?

I really don’t snack a whole lot, but I like hot dogs, cheese cake, cheese puffs, Little Debbie snack cakes…real healthy, ha!

Do you have a favorite quote?

I pounded this into my kids “You never know until you show,” you never know if your not there, in other words.

Who inspired you as a child?

I had many people inspire me as a kid but my Dad taught me to go to work. My uncles taught me the trade I do and my wonderful mother taught me unconditional love and tolerance…I was a handful, and still can be at times.

What is your favorite thing to do locally?

I like to hang out at Tony and Al’s on Main Street Alachua, I love their chicken parmesan.

What is your favorite meal?

Steak and stuffed potatoes with lots of bacon sour cream and cheddar cheese.

What have you always wanted to do but never done?

I have always wanted to be a real cowboy, and ride the bulls in rodeos. I would also love to travel the U.S. in an R.V. without a care in the world.

What gadget can’t you live without?

My Samsung cell phone. I also like the TuneIn Radio app so I can listen to all the games.

What is your favorite TV show?

Law and Order, I have seen every one of them.

What started your love for cars?

Growing up in it since I was a baby and seeing my father be successful in it.

What was your first car, what do you drive now, and what would be your dream car?

My first car was a pearl white,1967 Avanti II, it was the ugliest car I have ever owned but it was very rare. My Dad bought it off the street in Key West. I drive a Chevy Tahoe right now because I can pull a horse trailer, load it up with kids and do almost everything with it. My dream car would be a red, 1965 Mustang convertible.
