Medical Center on the Move

The amount of growth that North Florida Regional Medical Center (NFRMC) has undergone within the past year is vast. Among the developments, are both an AHCA certification and a DNV accreditation as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a position in Truven Health Analytics’ 100 Top Hospitals, the introduction of technological advances like a 128-slice CT scanner and a Biplane Neurointerventional Suite, and the addition of its first Freestanding Emergency Room-West End, near Tioga. In continuing its upward trend, the Gainesville community hospital has now introduced a third, 24/7, full-service Emergency Room location in the Millhopper area.

NFRMC’s Emergency Rooms are seldom idle – the hospital’s main campus Emergency Room saw over 70,000 visits in 2016 alone. Their under-15-minute average wait times have become one of the staples for which the hospital is highly recognized. The Millhopper and surrounding communities in Alachua County can now rest assured that the team at North Florida Regional’s Freestanding Emergency Room Millhopper is fully prepared to provide them and their loved ones with some of the best possible emergency care.

The facility opened its doors to the public on Monday, December 11th, at 4388 NW 53rd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32653. The $10.5 million project includes an 11,200-square-foot, one-story facility that expects to serve over 12,000 patients a year, features 11 emergency rooms, and opens opportunity for employment to approximately 35 full-time healthcare

“The addition of our second Freestanding Emergency Room location will ensure the capacity to better handle the amount of emergency-related volume we see on a daily basis,” said Brian Cook, CEO of North Florida Regional Medical Center. “Our ultimate goal is to provide the best possible emergency care. The Millhopper Freestanding ER will assist us in reaching that goal, by providing our patients with a location that is both faster and closer to home.”

While the benefits behind the newly built Millhopper Freestanding ER are many, providing people with shorter wait times to quality care is the main one. In a medical emergency, every minute matters, and having a facility that is more conveniently located will help save the surrounding communities longer commutes, and possibly lives.

The facility will be equipped to handle a full range of capabilities – from pediatric to adult care. Features include a full service lab, a 64-Slice low dose CT Scanner, a trauma room, Ultrasound and Digital Radiographic X-Ray technology, among others. Although the priority when designing the facility was to continue to provide extraordinary emergency care and patient experience, the investment also serves as a recruiting tool to attract highly-qualified emergency medicine physicians, whom are crucial not only to the patients themselves but to the hospital’s future as well.
