They worked hard and now live the……American Dream!

carpet1This family is what America is all about. Hard work, giving and loving every minute of life. I met Jorge and Susie Villalobos years ago at a business function. They attend so many it would make your head spin. They also are seen at many local sporting events cheering on their son who plays basketball for Buchholtz High School. The power couple are owners of The Best Restoration that is located here in Gainesville. The Villalobos family are the American dream. Moving here with nothing and with very little knowledge of the English language. They worked very hard to achieve their dream.

Where are you from, how long have you lived here and why?

We are originally from Bogota, Colombia. In 1999 my wife, children and I, left our country, extended family, and careers, for security reasons and moved to the United States. We are living the “American Dream”, not because of what we have but because of how we live: safe and free. Gainesville is the best thing that happened to us. We are blessed to be here and to be a part of this incredible community.

Tell us about your family?

Our family is made up of my wife, Susie, my daughter, Laura and my son, Sergio. Susie is a physician in Colombia and Registered Nurse in the U.S. She currently works for North Florida Hospital. As the Breast Cancer Navigator for the oncology department and a cancer survivor herself, she is able to help women affected by this terrible illness by supporting them with their health care and emotional wellbeing. Our daughter Laura, graduated from Buchholz High School, went to The University of Tampa to get her BA in Communication and in December she will receive her Master of Arts in Strategic Communications from American University. She works for Hillsborough Community College as a Communication and Literacy Specialist through their early learning department. Our son Sergio is a senior at Buchholz High School. He is involved in the Entrepreneurship program (DECA) and is a player on the Varsity Basketball Team. My wife and kids are heavily involved in the business, especially in the expenses part.

What made you start The Best Restoration, had you been in this type of business before?

After working with other companies in the same industry for 7 years, I was presented with an incredible opportunity in January of 2006 to start a company. That decision changed my life and I am glad I decided to step out of my “comfort zone” because I was able to create a successful company with a growing team that I am very proud of.

What charities do you support and why?

We are committed to working with Catholic Charities of Gainesville because of the great work that they do to help people with less opportunities. Their staff and programs are great, especially the backpack program that helps hundreds of kids in our community. Also, we are one of the small business partners of the United Way. The work that they do in funding 24 different programs is incredible and we plan to continue our partnership for a long time.

What is the most memorable thing that has happened while you have been on the job?

In the last two years, a lot of memorable things have impacted our personal and professional lives. The Chamber of Commerce selected The Best Restoration as the “Best Minority Company of the Year”. We had the privilege to be part of the founding of a group within the Hispanic business community – Latin American Business Alliance (LABA). We got a seat on the Board of Directors of the North Central Florida Apartment Association (NCFAA). Our company bought the rights to host the Gainesville Professional People in Real Estate (PPIR) meetings and we celebrated our 10 years in business.

What services does The Best Restoration offer? Is it just for emergencies? Can people just get a rug cleaned?

We also provide 24-hour emergency services (a live operator will answer your call) We employ 16 full time technicians, operate out of two locations, have 10 trucks and a large amount of drying equipment.

Why should someone use your service?

Our customers are very important to us and every member of our team also sets their own high standards to deliver a phenomenal customer experience.

What area do you cover?

Alachua County is our main market but we travel for larger cleanings or water damage jobs.

If my house has a water leak in the middle of the night or over the weekend can you help?

Yes, we provide 24-hour emergency services 7 days a week, including holidays. How long have you been in business?

The Best Restoration just celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened while working?

The first week in Gainesville (2004), I approached a local carpet cleaner in Best Buy and I asked him for advice as the “new kid in town.” He told me to get in my truck and go back to the Ft. Lauderdale area, where I used to live because there were too many people in the business already. I will be grateful to that man for the rest of my life because for years he was my inspiration to work hard every day to prove that he was wrong. I believe that the amount of competition does not matter if your goal is to be the best.

“My business had the unfortunate need to call The Best Restoration last year. However, we were fortunate for their service. From the time the “disaster” took place to the time their crews were on site making repairs was less than 25 minutes. I’ve never met another company that has such great service and employees as they do and I work with a lot of companies in and around Alachua County. I hope to never find myself needing them for a disaster clean up, but if I do I’ll rest assure knowing that they will be fast and efficient.” -Chancey Padgett, Vice President, Vintage Electric Inc
