Where are you from and when did you move to Gainesville and why?

I am originally from Warrenville, Illinois… a small town about 35 miles west of Chicago. Town of only about 600 people when my parents moved there in 1964… I remember being able to see the Aurora Borealis from our back yard when I was little… Now you’re lucky if you can see five stars! We moved to Gainesville in March 2002 when I purchased a local practice and started practicing Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

How do you relax?

Relax?!?!? What’s That??? That is the problem, I seem to have a difficult time relaxing. Married with four kids, with an active dog and a very busy family extracurricular
life, I have very little time to ever sit down and relax. However, we do a great variety of things for fun! Fishing, hunting, skeet, dog training, water sports, golf, surfing, boating, etc., all in addition to working a very busy practice, maintaining 15 acres and our family. I’m lucky if I get 4-5 hours of sleep a night!

Where do you like to go for a weekend getaway and why?

Our favorite place to go is the beach! St. Augustine and Crescent beach area. Our family loves the beach. It allows us all time to get away from the daily life and enjoy the family. We love to go fishing out there and we also surf and boogie board a lot!

What gadget and/or app can’t you live without?

I would have to say my iPhone. Unfortunately, these contraptions have become an integral part of our lives! I have learned how to use this thing to unbelievable levels to the point where my home computer broke during the summer and I haven’t even replaced it yet!

What was your first job and what did you learn from it?

I grew up on a small dairy farm. My first jobs were all related to working on the farm. From milking cows and goats, cleaning stalls, repairing fencing and breaking horses. I also shoed horses for a while. I started running my first business before Junior High. I learned that hard work always paid off. And that dedication and hard work throughout my younger years allowed me to graduate debt free with no student loans!

What is in your fridge?

A LOT OF MEAT! We have Two Fridges and TWO BIG FREEZERS! Lots of fishing and hunting! Plus we get a side or two of beef every year… YUM!

What has your best financial investment been?

My Oral Surgery Practice! I had worked for two other practices (working for someone else) until I bought my own practice… ever since I have not looked back! It’s great to be the boss!

Do you have a favorite quote?

Obi-Won… when he was talking to Luke and said, “Luke, you’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.” I have
learned to live by that…

Who inspired you as a child?

My parents… both very hard workers! My father and mother were the first to graduate with college degrees in their family!

What was your first car and what do you drive now?

Very first car I drove on the road was a 1974 Yellow F-100 Ford pickup truck… I believe I was nine years old and could barely reach the clutch when I had to shift the old THREE-ON-A-TREE!! Still drove that car when I went to college… IT WAS A RUST BUCKET!!!! I remember driving down the road one time and the tailgate just fell off!!! I had to stop and pick it up… it was blocking traffic. Another time I was driving down the road and went to flash the brights (remember the brights had a foot button that you would step on) and when I went to step on it… my foot went through the floor board!!! The very first vehicle that I drove was actually a Honda QA-50… that was my first Motor Bike… got it when I was 6 1/2 years old… no helmet… and I’m still alive! I think it might have been painted with lead paint as well… (HA HA)
