Gob Smacked Over British Products!

by Trish Utter

brit-products-for-webThe British flag is hot, appearing on everything from T shirts, phone covers, jewelry, cushions to beauty products and food. The hype is due in part to the birth of the Royal baby, the award winning period show Downton Abby and boy band, One Direction. Americans have gone Red Coat crazy wanting to know what brand of tea the Royal family drinks and what One Direction eat for breakfast. The curiosity in England and the increase in Brits and Commonwealth nationalities that have moved to our area prompted Hitchcock’s to start a large British product section at their Alachua store. This has grown to huge proportions over the past ten years. Pat Good over sees this department and has built a close relationship with her clients. Her customers request things from their native country and Pat makes sure they are stocked. Some customers drive hours to stock up on Marmite, bacon, sausages and other tasty treats.

spotted-dick-for-webDid you know that you will find the Royal Warrant (Coat of Arms) on the packaging of certain products? This means that these products are used by the Queen and her family! The companies that are honored to use this seal of approval must have been doing business with the royal household for at least five years. It’s kind of cool to think that you have something on your table that the Queen has on hers. I bet that the first time the royal baby has chocolate it will be a bag of Cadbury’s Chocolate Buttons. Even in the times of Downton Abby, British mothers gave their children a bag of these little treats.

British Christmas Stockings filled with sweets, Biscuit tins, Sugar Mice, Downton Abby, Dr. Who, Top Gear, Soccer team mugs, T shirts and other gifts will be on the shelves this Holiday Season. Don’t wait, they sell out fast.

British products make unique holiday gifts….and if it is good enough for the Queen of England then your friends are sure to love it!

Don’t forget that you can also order your Holiday Dinners and Party Platters. The Deli department will take orders now for Fully Cooked Turkey Dinners that come with cornbread stuffing and gravy. Some come with, sweet potato casserole, cranberry sauce, green beans and a dozen rolls…..HUNGRY YET?
