The Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel Beach RecreationThere’s a breeze in the air that rustles the palm leaves that roof our cabana and the hotel staff are letting us know that our catamaran is waiting to set sail. Ah, the Good Life!

Usually I am struggling to the beach with chairs, umbrellas and towels, but here all I had to bring to the beach was…me! Every time I set foot on the beach the hotel staff had our chairs and umbrella waiting for us.

There’s no need to leave the hotel property with everything that the Helmsley has to offer. You can rent at a reasonable price, sea bikes, a catamaran, kayaks, paddle boards and bicycles. The beach is beautiful and wide and the warm water feels wonderful.

The Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel CourtyardThe Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel sits on 600 feet of pristine white sand at Lido Key in Sarasota. It is next to a nature preserve so it is quiet with lots of wildlife to view. Sea Turtles nest right in front of the resort and lots of other animals are all around. Two heated pools sit next to the pool bar where I ordered a wonderful pi?a colada.

I always end up forgetting to bring something on a trip but the gift shop at the Helmsley is well stocked with snacks, gifts, medications and anything one might need while away. In the evening after the sun went down we played a good old family game of shuffle board. The hotel also offers volleyball, table tennis and workout room.

The Helmsley’s rooms are huge and offer everything you would expect of a good hotel. Our room had a balcony with views of the beach that went on for miles. In the evenings I sat and enjoyed the stunning view of the turquoise water and the amazing sunsets. What a way to unwind!

The Candlelight Restaurant and Lounge offers a diverse menu, full bar and live music on certain nights. They specialize in steak and seafood. My kids ordered their usual chicken tenders but when they saw and tasted my steak tenderloin they were hooked. It was perfectly cooked with caramelized onions and sweet potato fries and asparagus. It was fresh and delicious.

The hotel’s House Keepers were as quiet as mice. They seemed to know exactly when we would leave our room and had it looking wonderful every day. The staff at the Helmsley made us feel special during our stay and nothing was overlooked.
